A major objective of Medha is to design and develop products for railways on par with the world class technology and equipment. Our strong 250 plus design team strives to design and develop world class products using the latest technologies.

At our Design Centre, our customer's need is studied by the Design and Development (D&D) department to conceptualise a cost-effective system that could potentially solve customer's need and outperform our competitors’ product. Once the conceptual system is developed and tested in a hypothetical environment, the development team takes control of it. The development team adopts one of the system development methodologies that is best suited to develop the proposed system, and provides a finished prototype product to the customers for field trials.

The Design Centre is CMMI Level 3 certified for product development processes to implement development projects with well defined objectives, time bound schedule and optimum resource management. Strictly adhering to ISO 9001:2000 quality systems and procedures, the D&D department generates various drawings for each part and outlines details for the raw materials & bought-out components, acceptance criteria for various parts & sub-assemblies, testing & tuning procedures, acceptance & qualification test procedures for the final assembly, designs & drawings for custom made tools, jigs, fixtures & test jigs, and the preparation of user manuals & maintenance manuals. Design reviews are conducted at various stages of the development process by our team of expert engineers. Each product design is examined in the stages of conceptual design, detailed design, development, testing, design validation, qualification testing and field trials, and the appropriate documentation is generated at each stage.

 Our Design Centre consists of:

• A centrally air conditioned building occupying over 10,500 ft² in area

• Laboratories with sophisticated test equipment for hardware development and testing for Control Electronics, Power Electronics and Signalling departments

• Custom made locomotive simulators and other test facilities for product development and testing

• High power combined Traction Drive and Traction Motor test facility for up to 1MW

• Software development tools required for various 8 bit to 32 bit microcontrollers / microprocessors / DSPs like, Freescale Code Warrior IDE, Metrowerks Code Warrior IDE, Keil µVision, Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio IDE, GreenHils IDE, Microchip MPLAB IDE and Analog Devices Visual DSP

• Embedded software testing tools like IBM Rational Test RealTime

• Work stations equipped with the latest version of CADSTAR software for PCB layout design
